Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale
Off To Hot Start Friday Night
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (September 4, 2010) – The first
yearling in the sale ring on Friday night at the Ruidoso Select Yearling and
Broodmare Sale sold for $340,000 and the positive trend continued throughout the
first-night offering.
The 129 yearlings that sold on Friday night averaged $33,740, compared to
$26,188 in last year’s first-night offering.
Wild And Fast, a son of Corona Cartel out of 2-time Grade 1 winner Wild Six,
brought $340,000 on a bid from Rene Ruiz of Oklahoma. The colt was consigned by
Roger Daly, agent for John Lee, Lincoln Sherwood and Herman Mineer. Wild Six won
the 2007 Rainbow Futurity and was sixth in the All American Futurity.
The second-highest-priced yearling at $300,000 was Fly First Down, a colt by
First Down Dash out of multiple Grade 1 qualifier Babe On The Beach. Burns
Ranch, agent, consigned Fly First Down, who was purchased by Raul Ramirez of
Texas.
Selling for the third-highest price of $222,000 was Lil Bit Corona, a colt by
Corona Cartel who is the first foal out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess A Lil Bit
More. Mackie Racing LLC of Houston purchased Lil Bit Corona, who was consigned
by Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent.
The sale topper from the 2009 Ruidoso Select Yearling and Broodmare Sale was
Oceans Apart at $300,000. Topping the first night of last year’s offering was
Perry Otoole at $140,000.
All American Derby qualifier Callan Rocks led the broodmare and broodmare
prospect section of the sale. She sold for $300,000 to Dr. Ed Allred and will
race under his ownership in Sunday’s All American Derby. The Corona Cartel
daughter was consigned by Crystal Springs Farm, agent.
The Grade 1, $1,548,076 All American Derby is the all-time richest race for
3-year old or older quarter horses.
The top-selling broodmare in 2009 was Going Separate Ways at $100,000.
The 3-day sale continues on Saturday and Sunday nights after the racing
concludes at Ruidoso Downs. It is conducted at the sale pavilion adjoining the
track.
