Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale
Shows Strong Gains, Defies Trends
RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (September 5, 2010) - Despite
double-digit international downturns in racehorse yearling sales, the Ruidoso
Select Yearling Sale is showing strong double-digit gains through two days of
the 3-day offering of premier quarter horse yearling racing prospects.
During Friday night's second session, the yearlings that sold averaged $40,812,
compared to $32,560 on the second night of the 2009 offering. This is a
25.3-percent increase.
Yearlings changing hands during the sale's first night averaged $34,479,
compared to $26,439 during the first night of the 2009 sale.
The high-seller at $300,000 during the second night was All Corona, a
half-brother to 2010 Ruidoso Futurity winner and Rainbow Futurity runner-up
American Runaway. The Corona Cartel son was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, agent for
Lance Robinson, and was purchased by trainer Heath Taylor.
The second high-seller on Friday night at $275,000 was First Prize Doc, a son of
2006 broodmare of the year First Prize Dash. The member of the second crop of
PYC Paint Your Wagon, First Prize Dash was purchased by William Smith from the
6666 Ranch consignment, agent for Weetona Stanley.
The sale's overall high-seller at $340,000 was the first yearling through the
ring on opening night, Wild And Fast. The son of Corona Cartel and Rainbow
Futurity winner Wild Six was bought by Rene Ruiz from the consignment of Roger
Daly, agent for John Lee, Lincoln Sherwood and Herman Mineer.
The sale concludes on Sunday evening at the sales pavilion adjacent to Ruidoso
Downs Race Track. It begins shortly after the conclusion of the day's races.
