Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Wraps Up With Overall Gains

RUIDOSO DOWNS, New Mexico (September 6, 2010) - The Ruidoso Select Sale counteracted a worldwide downturn in racehorse yearling prices by showing an overall 7.7-percent increase in average prices for the 3-day offering that concluded on Sunday evening.

The final figures that the 363 yearlings who changed hands averaged $35,048, up from $32,546 in 2009. Four yearlings brought more than $300,000, eight yearlings more than $200,000 and 31 yearlings more than $100,000.
The median of $20,000 was consistent with the 2009 median.

For the third straight night, the day's high-seller reached the $300,000 mark. The unnamed filly from the Burns Ranch consignment sold for $300,000 to Raul Ramirez. The First Down Dash filly is a full sister to champion Tempting Dash and Grade 1 winner A Tempting Dash.

The first yearling through the sale ring, Wild And Fast, held up as the overall high-seller at $340,000. The son of Corona Cartel and Rainbow Futurity winner Wild Six was bought by Rene Ruiz from the consignment of Roger Daly, agent for John Lee, Lincoln Sherwood and Herman Mineer.

The high-seller at $300,000 during the second night was All Corona, a half-brother to 2010 Ruidoso Futurity winner and Rainbow Futurity runner-up American Runaway. The Corona Cartel son was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, agent for Lance Robinson, and was purchased by trainer Heath Taylor.

Broodmare and broodmare prospects were offered on opening night before the yearlings were offered. All American Derby qualifier Callan Rocks topped that section on a bid of $300,000 from Dr. Ed Allred. The Corona Cartel daughter was sold by Crystal Springs Farm, agent.
