Corona Cartel Colt tops Ruidoso Select Yearling sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS – Rip Tide, a Corona Cartel colt consigned by agent Lazy E Ranch LLC, sold for $300,000 to top the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, held Aug. 29-31 at the Ruidoso Horse Sale Pavilion at Ruidoso Downs.

Reliance Ranches LLC of Llano, Texas, signed the ticket for Rip Tide (Hip No. 90) on the opening night of the sale. The colt is out of Little Surfer, a stakes-winning 8-year-old daughter of all-time leading sire First Down Dash and a full sister to 2006 world champion Wave Carver and two-time champion Ocean Runaway.

Jess A Sweetie (Hip No. 360), the second-highest seller, was acquired by Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas, for $260,000 from the Allred Bros. Ranch LLC consignment. A bay daughter of 2010 world champion Apollitical Jess and the Grade 3-winning First Down Dash mare One Sweet Jess, Jess A Sweetie is a half sister to three stakes winners, including ’12 world champion One Dashing Eagle and Grade 1 winner One Sweet Jess.

Dan and Jolene Urschel purchased the third-highest seller, Betchacantcatchme (Hip No. 231), for $235,000. Consigned by Kirk Goodfellow’s Dreams Come True Ranch of Nacogdoches, Texas, the sorrel colt is a son of 2009 champion 2-year-old colt Tempting Dash.

His stakes winning and graded stakes placed dam, the Takin On The Cash mare Dreams For Lyndsie, is a half sister to three-time AQHA champion Catchmeinyourdreams.

Trotter also acquired the fourth-highest seller, Devilwitha Bluedress (Hip No. 22), for $230,000. The filly, consigned by agent Belle Mere Farm Ltd., is a sorrel daughter of Corona Cartel and a full sister to 2007 world champion Blues Girl Too.

A total of 347 of the 461 yearlings offered sold for an aggregate sum of $15,555,400. The average price of $44,828 was 8-percent higher than last year’s average of $41,480. There were 93 yearlings who did not reach their reserve and 22 outs.

Also, a total of 39 yearlings sold for $100,000 or more.

Lazy E Ranch, agent, was the sale’s leading consignor with 25 head sold for $1,569,000. Reliance Ranches LLC was the leading buyer with 14 purchases totaling $1,764,000.

Corona Cartel was the leading sire by average, as his 25 yearlings sold for an average price of $84,240.

Select Yearling Sale has impressive results

RUIDOSO DOWNS, N.M. – The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale affirmed its position as quarter horse racing’s premier sale with final figures that show an 8.2 percent boost over last year with a strong final session on Saturday night.

The entire offering averaged $44,917.

The Sunday offering, the third of the three-night sale, showed a 14.6 percent increase in average per horse sold with the average per horse sold at $45,067.

Topping the final session at $260,000 was Jess A Sweetie, a daughter of Apollitical Jess and out of the multiple stakes winner One Sweet Dash, the dam of 2012 world champion and leading sire One Dashing Eagle, Grade 1 Golden State Million winner One Sweet Jess and the stakes winning, track-record setter Hes A Standout.

Jess A Sweetie was consigned by Allred Bros. Ranch, LLC and purchased by Johnny Trotter. AQHA president Trotter also bought the second-high seller on the first night for $230,000. The Corona Cartel filly is out of broodmare of the year Run The Dash, the dam of world champion Blues Girl Too.

The second high-seller during the final session at $225,000 was Budder Think Twice, a daughter of all-time leading sire First Down Dash and Budderfly Effect. A daughter of Strawflyin Buds, Budderfly Effect is the dam of Grade 1 Golden State Million winner Igotyourtac and Restricted Grade 2 Governor’s Cup Derby winner Scoop Of Sunshine.

McColee Land and Livestock purchased Budder Think Twice from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for Double Bar S Ranch, LLC.

The entire sale’s topper, Rip Tide, sold on the first night for $300,000. He is a gray son of Corona Cartel and the stakes winning, 440-yard track-record setter Little Surfer by First Down Dash. Rip Tide’s second dam is broodmare of the year Runaway Wave, dam of world champion Wave Carver and two-time champion Ocean Runaway.

Rip Tide was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent and purchased by Reliance Ranches, LLC.

A total of 41 yearlings sold for $100,000 or more during the three nights.
