This year’s Ruidoso Select Quarter Horse Yearling Sale, which will be held August 30-September 1 at the Ruidoso Downs Sale Pavilion, has drawn 493 consignments, an increase of 18.5 percent over the 416 yearlings offered during the 2012 sale.

This year’s yearling sale will be preceded by the Crystal Springs Farm Dispersal Sale, which will begin before the first session on August 30.

Leading consignor Lazy E Ranch of Guthrie, Oklahoma, will be represented by 128 yearlings, including An American Cartel (Hip No. 57), a filly by Corona Cartel and a half sister to 2010 AQHA champion 2-year-old American Runaway; Newport (Hip No. 116), a Corona Cartel colt and half brother to 2001 All American Futurity (G1) winner Ausual Suspect; Cortona Cartel (Hip No. 171), a filly by Corona Cartel and a half sister to two-time AQHA champion FDD Dynasty; and Perriwinkle (Hip No. 231), a daughter of Mr Jess Perry and a full sister to two-time champion Noconi.

Prominent breeder Julianna Hawn Holt of Blanco, Texas, will be represented by 13 yearlings, topped by Top Texas Wildcatter (Hip No. 139), a colt by the Corona Cartel stallion Fantastic Corona Jr and a half brother to two-time champion and 2011 All American Futurity (G1) winner Ochoa; and Panama Wes (Hip No. 356), a son of Walk Thru Fire and champion Apollitical Time and a half brother to 2010 AQHA world champion Apollitical Jess.

Also, 6666 Ranch of Guthrie, Texas, has consigned 43 head to the sale. One member of the 6666 consignment, Ms Weetona Lafawn (Hip No. 321), is a daughter of Corona Cartel and Grade 1 winner First Carolina whose full sister, Ms First Prize Rose, won the July 21, $1-million Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.

The late Cartel Quick, the winner of this year’s $600,000 Ruidoso Futurity (G1) and a son of champion Teller Cartel and the stakes-placed Royal Quick Dash mare Beccas Quick Six, sold for $10,000 at last year’s Select Sale.

Also, the Mr Jess Perry filly Big Biz Perry sold for $20,000 at the 2012 Select Sale. Thus far, the sorrel filly has earned $396,550 from five races, and her four wins include the June 1, $910,260 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park.
