RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM – August 30, 2013 – The first of three nights of racing prospects selling in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale showed a 7.4 percent increase per horse sold over last year’s first night.

The average of $36,861 was up over the $34,327 average last year.

Topping the evening’s sale at $350,000 was Cartels Big Gun, a brother to recent Grade 1, $1,111,000 Ed Burke Million winner Five Bar Cartel, who is undefeated from three starts. They are each sired by Corona Cartel and out of Grade 1 winner Five Bar Molly.

Cartels Big Gun came out of the Burns Ranch consignment and was purchased by Dr. Ed Allred. Earlier in the evening, during the Crystal Springs Farm Bloodstock Dispersal, Allred purchased Natalie Dash, in foal to Corona Cartel. for $270,000. She was the second highest seller during that offering.

Corona Cartel also sired the second and third high-selling yearlings during the evening.

Second high-seller Corona Rattler brought $115,000 on a bid for Reliance Ranches, LLC from Lazy E Ranch, agent for Bollenbach Farms. The colt is out of the multiple Grade 1 futurity finalist Streakin Millie, the dam of Grade 1 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity winner Ancient Ruler.

Third high-seller Dash Around Blues was purchased for $102,000 by JK Running Horses, LLC from the Belle Mere Farm, Ltd. consignment. The colt is out of 2007 broodmare of the year Run The Dash and a full brother to world champion Blues Girl Too, a $2,032,328 earner who won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million and set a former Los Alamitos 440-yard track record while winning the Grade 1 Champion Of Champions.

The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale continues on Saturday and Sunday nights after the day’s racing in the sales pavilion adjacent to Ruidoso Downs.
