RUIDOSO DOWNS, N.M. – The first of three nights of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale got off to a rollicking start with the average per horse sold up more than 20 percent to $44,260 on Friday evening at the Ruidoso Downs’ sales pavilion.

That compares to $36,677 for last year’s first session.

The first night was fueled by 16 yearlings bringing $100,000 or more.

Topping the first-night offering at $300,000 was Rip Tide, a gray son of Corona Cartel and the stakes winning, 440-yard track-record setter Little Surfer by First Down Dash. Rip Tide’s second dam is broodmare of the year Ocean Runaway, dam of world champion Wave Carver and two-time champion Ocean Runaway.

Rip Tide was consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent and purchased by Reliance Ranches, LLC.

Another yearling by Corona Cartel, Devilwitha Bluedress, was the second high seller at $230,000. She is out of broodmare of the year Run The Dash, the dam of world champion Blues Girl Too. Devilwitha Bluedress is a full sister to Blues Girl Too, stakes winner The Blues Girl and the stakes-placed Shades Of Blues Girl.

Devilwitha Bluedress was consigned by Belle Mere Farm, Ltd. agent and purchased by Johnny Trotter.

The third high-seller at $200,000 was Lonely Tonight, a daughter of Walk Thru Fire and Babe On The Fly by Strawfly Special. Babe On The Fly is also the dam of 2014 Grade 1, $943,127 Ruidoso Derby winner Rock You and California Breeders’ Sprint Stakes winner Carne Vino.

Lonely Tonight was consigned by Burns Ranch, agent and purchased by Dan and Jolene Urschel.

The Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale continues on Saturday and Sunday after the races conclude at Ruidoso Downs.
